UPDATE - Medicare Part DThe next annual enrollment period for Medicare Part D is upon us. This period runs from November 15, 2006 - December 31, 2006. Plan choices made at this time will be effective January 1, 2007. As a reminder, all Medicare beneficiaries are eligible to choose and enroll in a Part D prescription drug plan. Unless they have other prescription drug coverage that is as good as Part D, known as “credible coverage,” they will incur a late penalty on their premium if they do not enroll during the enrollment period. A client may have enrolled in a plan in 2006 that no longer suites their needs. If the plan formulary no longer includes particular drugs needed by the Medicare beneficiary, they need to review and choose another plan during the enrollment period. It is important that clients are counseled and assisted in choosing the proper Medicare Part D plan to fit their needs. Smith Bovill, P.C. counsels clients on elder law and Medicaid planning issues regularly as part of its estate planning, probate, and trust administration practice.
